Some cats will run a fever. Just like humans cats that have an upper respiratory illness are contagious and should be kept separate from other cats. Cats with upper respiratory problems should be encouraged to drink lots of fluids. If your cat develops a fever take him to the veterinarian for a round of antibiotics. High fevers, if left untreated, can lead to brain damage and death.

Cats are susceptible to abscesses. These are wounds that heal over while trapping infection under the skin. A bump appears as the pus gathers on the cat’s skin. The veterinarian’s care is needed as the cat’s abscesses have to be cut open, drained, and an antibiotic cream applied. A tube has sometimes to be attached to drain the pus from the cat. After the procedure, the veterinarians do prescribe a round of antibiotics since most probably the cats will run a fever.

In addition to the aforementioned diseases, pet cats also have a tendency to have diabetes. Most pet health insurance companies help cover the cost of bills for the care of your pet cat.
