Social Security Number – What Is It
Countries are imposing different policies in order for them to track down their citizens. Issuing social security numbers to citizens is one of them. Social security numbers are very useful for a country to manage its taxation system.
Permanent residents, citizens and temporary residents are issued their own social security number. These are nine digit numbers that are definitely unique from one person to another. Some people may know this as SSN.
These numbers are given by and synchronized by a self-regulating agency in the United States called the Social Security Administration. This agency handles all transactions related to ssn.
Our ssn is unique from one person to another unlike our blood where in we can have the same blood types with our parents or our relatives. It can be compared to a human finger print in which no two individuals have the same finger print – the same judgment applies to social security number.
Citizens being issued by social security numbers are not exclusive to United States. Almost all countries impose the same policy but they just have a different name for it. For instance, Canada calls it Social Insurance Number or SIN and the Philippines calls it Taxpayer Identification Number or TIN. Like the United States, the Philippines and Canada’s own version of social security number also has 9 digits and serves the same purpose.
As mentioned earlier, Social Security Numbers are unique from one person to another and these numbers can be used for different transactions. Hence, having a one is very important especially if you are working. Social security number is used to track down individuals for taxation purposes. If you don’t have a social insurance number, then the agency won’t have a record of you and the taxes, even if you are religiously paying them, won’t be credit at all. Thus, this may lead to cases of fraud or tax evasion or anything of that sort.
There are many pieces of information on hand on how to get an SSN, you can try by logging on to the internet and on the search engine box, you can type in free ssn search and you can find results about social security numbers and any other related topics.
